What’s Your Excuse?

How will 2011 look like for you? Are YOU going to be in charge this time? Although I was talking about the three biggest hurdles that need to be overcome in order to achieve living a live of passion – False Concepts, Beliefs and Ideas – in an earlier issue of Connect, I didn’t really get into the ‘How to do it’.

I want to help you get out of a life where things are happening ‘to you’ and move forward powerfully where you create exactly what you want in your life.

Do these statements sound familiar?

• I can’t live my passions because I have to support my family.

• I can’t make money from the things I am passionate about.

• I don’t have the skills to be really successful.

• I am too old. It’s too late for me.

• I am too young. I don’t have enough experience.

• I am too fat, short, skinny…

• I am not outgoing enough.

No matter who you are, no matter what your situation, no matter what your handicaps, thinking that these things prevent you from living your passions are all simply false ideas, false concepts and false beliefs. These are thoughts you hold that are simply not true. They are out of sync with reality.

When you are truly passionate about something, you will always have the ability to create it in your life.

Think about these people:

• Oprah Winfrey – sitting around and chatting with people.

• Albert Einstein flunked most of his courses in school.

• Too old? Most millionaires are made after the age of 55.

• Colonel Sanders was 62 years old when he started Kentucky Fried Chicken.

No matter what limiting belief you hold, there is evidence in the world to the contrary. Even if there is no one who has ever done what you are passionate about doing, there is abundant evidence of people who have been successful doing what others thought was impossible. You are powerful beyond your imagination!

You have created your life so far, and the good news is, if you don’t like it you can change it. Remember this mantra!

Your life is created first in your mind then in the world.

As long as you believe you can’t, you won’t be able to. As long as you believe it’s not possible, it won’t be possible for you. As long as you believe it’s too hard, it will be too hard for you. Is the opposite also true? As long as you believe you can, you will be able to – yes, but it is not quite that simple, as your beliefs run deep. You can say “I can do it,” and still not believe you can, deep inside. This is why affirmations often don’t produce the results we want them to. Ask your mind a question and it will search for an answer. If you haven’t believed you can live your passions, then ask yourself, ‘what evidence can I find that maybe I can live my passions?’ Keep looking for evidence until you can feel it deep inside: ‘Of course I can do it. Look at all the other people who have done it, look at all the evidence there is that this is possible.’

This is your first and most important task in living your passions – Discover the evidence you need in order to believe that you can do it.

If you study successful people and find out the truth about those people, like for example Neale Donald Walsh, who lived on the streets for some time (best-selling author of Conversations with God), it will help you believe that if he could do it, you can do it!

Herb of the Month – EyeBright ‘Euphrasia officinalis’

Seeing it through…

Belonging to the Scrophulariaceae family, eyebright is a low small herb, with small white flowers steeped with purple and yellow spots or stripes. This genus includes 450 semi-parasitic species. As a medicinal herb, eyebright may be derived from E.officinalis, E.brevipila, or E.rostkoviana. Euphrasia officinalis is a grassland species that is parasitic on Trifolium pratense. It is a summer herb, with the dried aerial parts used, that is native to Europe. Euphrasia is a translation of the Greek, meaning ‘good cheer’. Other names: Euphrosyne or Red Eyebright. Ruled by the sun and therefore increases mental and psychic powers.

Through the ages….

Originally considered a medicinal herb for ‘all evils of the eye’ in the 14th century gaining credibility through the Doctrine of Signatures – the purple and yellow spots and stripes on the flowers resemble the diseases of the eye i.e. bloodshot. The plant was known to classical herbalists, however was not referred to until the early 1300’s. Nicholas Culpepper assigned it to the Zodiac sign of Leo, claiming that it strengthened the brain. It was also used to treat bad memory and vertigo. Magical properties: Carry eyebright to increase your psychic powers and use when you need to see the truth in a situation.

Medicinal Uses

It is a hardy, bitter astringent herb that reduces inflammation and secretion of the mucous membranes. The combination of anti-inflammatory and astringent properties make it relevant in many conditions. Used internally, it is a powerful anti-catarrh, hayfever and sinusitis remedy and is useful for other congestive states. It is best known for its use in conditions of the eye. It is helpful in acute or chronic inflammation, stinging and weeping eyes as well as over sensitivity to light. As a compress and taken internally it is used in conjuctivitis and blepharitis.

• Tincture: 1-4 ml taken three times a day.

• Infusion: Pour a cup of boiling water onto one teaspoon of the dried herb and leave to infuse for 5 to 10 minutes. Sip 3 times daily.

• Compress: Place one teaspoon of dried herb in 500 ml of water and boil for 10 minutes. Cool slightly and pass through muslin (or fine sieve). Use the lukewarm water; soak soft cotton pads or cloth. Use over the eye for 10 minutes at a time.
